Young Investigator Awards
ISSNAF - Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation - confers the Young Investigator Awards every year to outstanding, early-career, Italian researchers working in North America, in recognition of their significant and innovative contributions to their discipline of study.
ISSNAF is very pleased to announce the Young Investigator Awards for 2020 and grateful to their sponsors for their generosity:
Embassy of Italy Award to Honor Young Italian Researchers
The 2020 award will recognize young Italian researchers in the U.S. whose work in the most advanced fields has shown potential for significant impact to the prevention and/or management of Covid-19.
Paola Campese Award for Research in Leukemia
Established by Stefania and Vito Campese in 2011 in memory of their young, talented, and generous daughter Paola.
Mario Gerla Award for Research in Computer Science
Established by the Gerla family in 2019 in memory of Dr. Mario Gerla, professor of Computer Science at UCLA and ISSNAF founder.
Franco Strazzabosco Award for Research in Engineering
Established by the Strazzabosco family in 2013 in memory of the late Dott. Ing. Franco Strazzabosco, it is a tribute to the entrepreneurial courage of Italian engineers, who strive to apply scientific discoveries to public advantage.
Winners will receive the Award Winner Certificate and a monetary prize of $3,000.
Finalists will receive the Award Finalist Certificate.
Current affiliation with a research institution in the United States or Canada;
Ph.D. received, or Medical Residency completed, not earlier than January 1st 2013, and not later than December 31st 2018 (date on the degree certificate).
Application Evaluation Criteria
A Review Board overseen by the ISSNAF Scientific Council will evaluate all eligible applications taking into consideration:
The applicant’s curriculum, considering titles, positions, publications, funding, and patents);
The research project(s), considering the research quality, results obtained versus goals, significance to the field and/or society, innovation, and the applicant’s personal contributions;
Two professional references
The Review Board selects three Finalists (for each award) from the applicant pool;
The Finalists present their research orally in English at the ISSNAF Annual Event, 2020;
The Winner is chosen among the Finalists by a Jury appointed by the ISSNAF Scientific Council at the ISSNAF Annual Event 2020.
The decisions made by the Review Board and the Jury are final.
